Blomidon Estate Winery Sparkles at Decanter World Wine Awards

Blomidon Decanter World Wine Award Winners

For Immediate Release: July 23, 2019

Canning, N.S. – Three traditional method sparkling wines from Blomidon Estate Winery took home awards at the 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) in London, England. The DWWA represents the best of the best in wines and is considered an international benchmark competition.

“This is huge for us,” says Tim Ramey, co-owner of Blomidon Estate Winery. “Our success is a direct correlation between our exceptional terroir here in Canning, which is shaped daily by the highest tides in the world, the influence of cool ocean breezes blowing through the vineyard and the unique composition of our soil - partnered with the talent and passion of our Blomidon team. Our 100% Nova Scotia wines truly reflect who we are, and we couldn’t be prouder to achieve Silver and Bronze medals in this prestigious competition.”

In its 16th year, the Decanter World Wine Awards is the world's largest and most influential wine competition. It is judged by top wine experts from around the globe.

The 2019 DWWA award-winning wines from Blomidon Estate Winery are:

2010 Blanc de Blancs • 90 points, Silver Medal

2011 Brut Réserve • 90 points, Silver Medal

2015 Cuvée L'Acadie • 87 points, Bronze Medal

“Our Nova Scotia climate, and in particular our site here at Blomidon, is so well-suited to sparkling wines…the balance between the freshness and acidity and the rich aromatics is something that makes our wines special,” says Simon Rafuse, winemaker at Blomidon Estate Winery. “We also have, as far as I know, the oldest Chardonnay vines in the province. I believe that lends a character to our wines that only older vines can bring.”
